Why This Exists

The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission offers citizens zero transparency on judicial complaints — hiding unprofessional behavior and giving slaps on the wrist instead of accountability.

This directory puts power and clarity back where it belongs: in the hands of the people. Every entry is documented. Every listing is evidence-based.

In Your Own Words, What Happened?

Federal agents are investigating Detroit’s 36th District Judge Andrea Bradley‑Baskin and her father, attorney Avery Bradley, over allegations of bribery, wire fraud, and financial misconduct linked to court‑appointed guardianships of vulnerable adults.

In recent months, the FBI has seized more than $580,000 from properties and accounts connected to their guardianship firms, with clients reportedly barred from accessing needed care after their assets were frozen.

Although no formal charges have been filed and the investigation remains sealed, officials are reviewing records dating back to 2016, and community members have criticized the secrecy and potential breach of trust in the justice system.

According to the commission's complaint, the incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. on December 13, 2023, when Knoll's 12-year-old grandson resisted getting ready for school. Knoll allegedly yelled at the boy and grabbed his face, tilting it upward.
After the boy began crying, Knoll's wife, Shawn, intervened. In response to her intervening, Knoll struck her on the head.

During his plea hearing, Knoll admitted to the assault, stating, "I struck her on the top of the head with a flat open hand."

The commission also alleges that Knoll showed disrespect to law enforcement during his arrest. He reportedly threatened a Grand Haven Public Safety officer with "repercussions for false arrest," saying an officer's "ass would be in a sling for a false arrest." The complaint further alleges that Knoll told a detective "fuck you" while leaving the interview room.

The Judicial Tenure Commission cited multiple violations of judicial conduct codes, including requirements that judges observe the law, avoid impropriety and treat others with courtesy and respect.

Under Michigan court rules, Knoll has 14 days to file a response to the complaint.
Knoll is currently serving a six-year term that expires in December 2026.

In Your Own Words, What Happened?

The Judicial Tenure Commission states Charles LeSata had been "problematic" for several years before their investigation opened in September 2020. Rude to people in his court room, would not let attorneys speak. Repeatedly ignored the law in multiple cases. Campaigned for his wife when he should not have. He made threats for fines and sanctions against lawyers and public defenders.

The Judicial Tenure Commission "publicly admonished" him in their 2023 Annual Report; it achieved nothing.

For years of bad behavior, he got a slap on the wrist.

Judge John McBain is impatient, unable to be impartial, and is incredibly unprofessional. He has gotten into physical fights with defendants and engaged in unconstitutional upward departures. He defied Court of Appeals orders to appropriately resentence a defendant. They informed him he was in the "wrong line of work."

The Judicial Tenure Commission privately admonished him (i.e., did nothing) in their 2023 Annual Report: http://cms4files.revize.com/mjtc/annual_report/docs/2023%20Annual%20Report.pdf
