To Elected and Appointed Leaders,

We are told to trust you. We are told that behind the closed doors of legislatures, courtrooms, agencies, and boardrooms, integrity reigns supreme. We are told that corruption is an isolated incident—a relic of history, a fluke rather than a feature.

And yet, across Michigan and the country, we see patterns too obvious to ignore:

Judges who rule in favor of campaign donors.
Prosecutors who withhold evidence and ignore the truth.
Agencies that regulate industries today and take high-paying jobs from them tomorrow.
Elected officials who pass laws that serve the powerful and punish the vulnerable.
Contracts awarded not on merit, but on connections.

When whistleblowers speak out, they are punished. When watchdogs raise alarms, they are discredited. When citizens question these actions, they are called “cynical,” “conspiratorial,” or “ungrateful.”

The Michigan Constitution tells us that the power is inherently in the people, but right now, it appears the people are ignored and special interests favored.

The Official Challenge

If corruption is truly rare—if it does not infect the machinery of governance as so many believe—then I officially challenge you: Prove me wrong.

The Path to Proof

If you are proud of how you wield the trust we place in you, transparency should not be a threat. It should be your greatest weapon against public doubt. To prove the system is clean, you must:

Open the Books

Release communications hidden behind “executive privilege” and “proprietary information.”

Independent Audits

Allow citizen-led audits of contracts, grants, prosecutions, and appointments.

Real-Time Tracking

Publicly track conflicts of interest in real-time. Make every backroom deal a matter of public record.

Secrecy looks an awful lot like complicity. The silence from so many offices and agencies speaks volumes. This is not a partisan demand; it is the foundation of a government worthy of its people.

If corruption doesn’t exist in your halls of power, your contracts, your appointments, your decisions… then show us. Prove me wrong.

We’re waiting. And we’re watching.

Sincerely,
A Citizen Who Refuses to Look Away
