Clutch Justice Weekly ranked No. 14 of 35 on the Top Law and Legal Newsletters ranking released by Sponsor Scout and Founders Live, updated October 6, 2026. The newsletter earned a Newsletter Leader Score of 60 and is the only Michigan-focused publication on the national list. Clutch Justice did not apply for the ranking or nominate itself. The news landed the same week clutchjustice.com passed 200,000 visitors for the year.
We Made the List
I am absolutely floored.
Clutch Justice Weekly just ranked number fourteen on Sponsor Scout and Founders Live’s Top 35 Law and Legal Newsletters list. Not a Michigan-specific list. Not a local journalism list. A national ranking of law and legal newsletters, sitting alongside some of the most established names in legal publishing.
What makes this even sweeter is that I did not apply for it. I did not nominate Clutch. I did not even know this ranking existed until I saw it in my LinkedIn feed with my name tagged in it.
What the Ranking Actually Measures
Clutch Justice goes back to the record, so here is the record on this one.
Sponsor Scout, a product of Founders Live Media, scores newsletters from 0 to 100 using what it calls the Newsletter Leader Score. According to its published methodology, the score is built by searching the open web daily and weighs several factors: sponsor activity carries the most weight, followed by publishing cadence, then audience size and readership quality, then recency of publication and broader web and social reach. Newsletters whose owners verify their listings receive a bonus.
That makes this a ranking of active, consistent, sponsor-ready legal newsletters. It is not an editorial award for the quality of the reporting, and I am not going to pretend it is. What it does measure is something I am deeply proud of: Clutch Justice Weekly ships every week, it reaches the people working inside the justice system, and it now shows up on the radar of a national legal media index next to publications with full staffs and decades of history.
Every investigation that put Clutch on this list started with records requests, court filings, and hours no newsroom or corporate backer is paying for. Clutch Confidential members vote on the next investigation, get early access to installments, join monthly member chats, and receive the Field Kit and course library at no extra cost.
$10/month ?The Company on This List
The top of the list reads like a who’s who of legal publishing. David Lat’s Original Jurisdiction holds the number one spot. Lawfare, SCOTUStoday from SCOTUSblog, and the Law Society Gazette’s daily update all appear in the top eleven. Chris Geidner’s Law Dork, one of the most respected independent legal newsletters in the country, sits at number twelve, just two spots ahead of Clutch.
Further down, under the same scoring, Clutch placed ahead of Law.com Morning Minute at number twenty-two, the New York State Bar’s CasePrepPlus at twenty-three, the D.C. Bar Legal Brief at twenty-four, the American Bar Association’s Law Practice Today at twenty-nine, and Above the Law’s Morning Docket at thirty-two.
Sponsor Scout’s listing estimates Clutch Justice Weekly’s readership at roughly 650 subscribers. Several newsletters ranked below it report audiences in the tens of thousands, including Law Practice Today at an estimated 150,000. Consistency and the right readers counted for more than raw size.
Why This Matters for Independent Accountability Journalism
I started Clutch Justice because I believed there was a better way to investigate, explain, and challenge the systems that affect people’s lives. No massive newsroom. No corporate backing. Just a whole lot of research, determination, stubbornness, and an absolute refusal to accept that accountability is optional.
Most of the newsletters on this list cover the business of law, legal technology, or the Supreme Court. Clutch covers what happens in Michigan courtrooms, prosecutor’s offices, and public institutions when nobody else is watching: judicial conduct, prosecutorial accountability, wrongful convictions, and public records. Sponsor Scout’s own description of Clutch names its readers as attorneys, public defenders, prosecutors, investigators, journalists, researchers, and policymakers. That is exactly who this work is for.
Seeing that kind of reporting ranked nationally says something bigger than one newsletter. State-level accountability journalism belongs in the national conversation about law, and readers are proving it.
Editorial note: Clutch Justice did not apply for, submit materials to, or nominate itself for this ranking. Rankings, scores, and subscriber estimates cited here are Sponsor Scout’s and reflect its listing as of the October 6, 2026 update. The 200,000 visitor figure comes from Clutch Justice’s own site analytics.
200,000 Visitors and Counting
The ranking was not the only milestone this week. Earlier this week, clutchjustice.com passed 200,000 visitors for 2026, with almost three months still left in the year.
Two hundred thousand visits means people are reading court records they were never supposed to find interesting. It means attorneys, families, investigators, and people who have been on the wrong end of a courtroom are coming back to check what the record actually says. That is the whole point of this work, and it is growing faster than I ever planned for.
If You Are New Here, Welcome
If the ranking or a shared link brought you here for the first time, welcome. Clutch Justice investigates Michigan courts, judges, prosecutors, and public institutions using the documents underneath the headlines: court filings, FOIA records, appellate opinions, and public data. The methodology is documented, the sources are cited, and when the record does not support a conclusion, Clutch says that too.
There are two ways to stay with us. The first is free: subscribe to Clutch Justice Weekly at clutchjustice.com and get the week’s investigations, records, and court developments in one briefing. The second keeps the work independent: become a Clutch Confidential member for $10 a month. Members vote on what Clutch investigates next, get early access to installments, join monthly member chats, and receive the full Field Kit and course library. Every membership funds the records requests, filing fees, and hours behind the next story.
Clutch has no newsroom budget and no corporate owner. It runs on readers. If this work matters to you, this is the moment to make it last.
Thank You
To everyone who reads, subscribes, shares, sends tips, supports the work, or simply believes in what we are building: thank you. You are the reason a small independent investigative platform out of Michigan is showing up on national lists.
We are not done. Not even close. The year is not even over, and Clutch keeps finding new ways to surprise me.
