Clutch Justice has officially opened an investigation into what appears to be a shocking and systemic failure in the Kent County Jail.

Multiple accounts from inside the facility, including a detailed document sent to our desk, paint a disturbing picture of prolonged detentions, inadequate counsel, excessive bond amounts, and prosecutors dragging cases out for months without resolution.

We’ve been put on alert of individuals who have endured 163 days without a bond hearing, after his bond was abruptly revoked and replaced with a staggering half-million-dollar amount.

According to a loved one’s account, his legal representation was so inadequate that they filed a formal complaint with the Michigan Attorney Grievance Commission, only to have the seemingly unethical attorney withdraw once he realized he was being reported.

The PDF provided includes testimony from multiple Kent County inmates detailing similar experiences: delayed hearings, extreme bond practices, and a justice system that appears to be operating on a schedule of deliberate inaction.

These are not isolated incidents; they suggest a broader pattern of neglect and abuse of due process that could amount to significant constitutional violations being swept under the rug.

Clutch Justice will be working to obtain court records, bond hearing transcripts, and prosecutorial case histories to confirm these claims and bring transparency to what is happening behind the closed doors of Kent County’s criminal justice system.

The public has a right to know if justice in Kent County has been replaced with a waiting game designed to break people before trial ever begins.
