Today, my favorite judge, William Baillargeon and his fabulous bow tie swore in my new and only favorite prosecutor, Michael Villar. Mike unseated Myrene Koch in the August 2024 primary.
Sworn In — December 31, 2024 Michael Villar Allegan County Prosecutor  |  Sworn in by Judge William Baillargeon  |  Unseated Myrene Koch, August 2024 primary

What the Koch Era Looked Like

Her reelection campaign, much like her office’s practices, was mired in controversy.

Documented Controversies — Former Prosecutor Myrene Koch
Myrene’s daughter, Taylor Michelle Koch, Berrien County Assistant Prosecutor, was found to have campaigned for her mother during working hours
Myrene’s supporters, to include staff, bullied and harassed the opposition online
During her tenure as prosecutor, she engaged in malicious prosecution
Sources allege she overcharged cases to expand on the courthouse and create a judge seat — a seat ultimately won by Emily Jipp

It is safe to assume Myrene will not be missed.

My own experience with Mike Villar has been extremely positive. When I had career politicians bullying me, he had my back. I have no doubt that Mike will stand up and do what’s right for Allegan County.
