The Michigan Attorney Discipline Board has imposed an interim suspension on Mohamed A. Chaytou (P80023) of Dearborn, Michigan, effective July 31, 2025, after he failed to appear for a scheduled disciplinary hearing despite having actual notice of the proceedings.
The suspension was ordered pursuant to Michigan Court Rule 9.115(H)(1), which authorizes interim suspension for failure to appear.
Background: Failure to Appear
According to the notice, Chaytou failed to appear before Tri-County Hearing Panel #7 for a disciplinary hearing scheduled on July 18, 2025.
The hearing panel entered satisfactory proofs into the record establishing that Chaytou possessed actual notice of the hearing. Based on his failure to appear, the panel issued an Order of Interim Suspension pursuant to MCR 9.115(H)(1).
Panel Order and Status
The hearing panel ordered that:
- Chaytou be interim suspended from the practice of law in Michigan, effective July 31, 2025.
- The suspension remain in effect until further order of the hearing panel or the Attorney Discipline Board.
An interim suspension under this rule is procedural and does not constitute a final determination on the underlying disciplinary allegations.
What This Means
Michigan’s attorney discipline system requires attorneys to appear and participate in proceedings concerning their professional conduct. Failure to appear, even where no substantive findings have yet been made, can result in immediate suspension.
Interim suspensions remain in effect until lifted by the hearing panel or the Board and are intended to protect the public while disciplinary matters proceed.
