Submit a Story to Clutch
11/28/25 CLUTCH IS NOT ACCEPTING STORIES AT THIS TIME.
At Clutch, we believe that real stories spark real accountability. If you have an experience with injustice, corruption, or resilience that deserves a spotlight, we want to help you share it.
Your story can expose what’s broken and inspire others to demand better.
Please Note: Clutch is still largely volunteer-ran; stories require time and research, people have bills to pay and lives to live. It pains me to say this: I cannot guarantee that a story will run immediately or at all due to time and resource constraints. If you would like to help us publish more stories, consider becoming a guest writer, researcher, fact-checker, or donate to clutch to help us hire full-time staff.
Stories We are NOT Accepting
At this time, clutch is not accepting:
- Any new, individual family court stories. Why? Read this. UNLESS you are an organization banding together to help families fight and change legislation, and then yes, we want to hear from you and spread the word.
- Stories with specific, intricate details that cannot be omitted but people have requested anonymity. Situations of this kind make it impossible to write the story without getting what it’s really about.
- Stories without documentation (screenshots, transcripts, etc.)

Editorial Guidelines
Voice & Tone

- Conversational but credible: Use plain language with justice-focused rigor.
- Advocacy-informed, not agenda-driven: Acknowledge your values but follow the facts wherever they lead.
Sourcing Standards

- Clutch prefers primary sources: court docs, FOIA records, public testimony, interviews.
- Use named sources when possible, but allow anonymity with explanation (e.g., retaliation concerns).
- Disclose any material alteration of documents (e.g., redactions) must be disclosed.
Ethics & Corrections
- See Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) and the Prison Journalism Project for Code of Ethics as a foundation.
- Maintain source protection and trauma-informed practices when interviewing impacted people.
- Corrections will be posted transparently with date and reason.
Contributor Guidelines
- Freelancers and contributors must disclose conflicts of interest.
- All pieces are reviewed for factual accuracy, not just grammar/style.
- Clutch accepts stories from directly impacted people, with editorial support as needed.
