Shad Hagan: Advocate, Speaker, and Champion for Criminal Justice Transformation; A Formerly Incarcerated Individual
Embarking on a journey that exemplifies resilience and the promise of second chances, I faced the challenges of imprisonment within the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Despite these adversities, my narrative unfolds with the pursuit of academic achievements, culminating in a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice(2023) and a B.S. in Corrections (2021). My professional journey led me to a role in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, where I actively advocated for implementing humanitarian policies and reintegration strategies.
However, recognizing a misalignment in philosophy within the department, where rhetoric about change did not translate into tangible steps for cultural transformation and combating systemic corruption, I resigned. Unexpectedly obstructed from aiding the incarcerated, I now focus my advocacy on fostering education, rehabilitation, and equitable opportunities. I invite you to join me in supporting initiatives that reshape lives and communities, working towards a future where everyone can rewrite their life story and contribute meaningfully to society. I am currently working on a Doctorate of Education in Administration and Leadership. Advocate for removing the criminal history question from the college application.
